São Paulo, May 17, 2019 – A warning against sexual exploitation of children and adolescents on Brazilian highways. With this purpose, Umiharu Produções Culturais e Cinematográficas will launch the documentary Mundo Sem Porteira(a world with no gates) on May 28.

The movie, which is scripted and directed by moviemaker Gisela Arantes, addresses the paths taken in 20 years for facing the problem and points out future perspectives for a more inclusive and fair society.

“The time game with maturity of the cause after 21 years alludes to the hope of greater maturity by the Brazilian society regarding this awareness and effective action”, says Gisela.

The 27-minute short film, with a multicausal view of the problem and of how to solve it, presents several statements, giving voice to truck drivers, protection organizations, teachers, specialists, human rights leaders, young people involved, among others.

The movie is supported by the Cultural Incentive Law of the State of São Paulo (Lei PROAC) and is sponsored by C&A, Gerdau and Klabin.

Technical consultancy is provided by a social organization part of the World Childhood Foundation called Childhood Brasil, which has been fighting the problem for over 20 years, mainly through the program On the Right Track (Na Mão Certa).

“The narrative line underlying the statements is based on the real story of Thaís. It reveals the experiences of several girls who have suffered sexual exploitation, sexual abuse and abandonment. Many voices were heard, represented by the poetic drama of their journey”, tells Gisela.

The film soundtrack was composed by André Abujamra and Eron Guarnieri. In addition, it has plastically beautiful images by photography director Luís Villaça revealing the universe of highways and their characters.

In its conception, the film includes the gate (porteira), a fictional element that gives the movie its name and plays homage to Guimarães Rosa. It is a poetic metaphor that shows an ideal world where children in their diversity play and have fun together and are free.

Much based on research, including research pieces carried out by the Federal Universities of Rio Grande do Sul and Sergipe, supported by Childhood Brasil, and on a series of statements from women that were sexually exploited in their childhood and youth, Mundo Sem Porteira, intends to raise awareness and inspire initiatives so that more people, companies and organizations join this cause.

The movie can be seen from May 28 on Umiharu’s YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/UmiharuProdCulturais).
