Klabin's forests are an asset of the company and to the planet. From them was born an awareness that is now responsible for a series of sustainable initiatives that benefit all who live around.

Forest Environment

Historically committed to sustainable development, Klabin has reserved over 40% of its lands for preserved native woodlands. And it plants its own pine and eucalyptus trees to make its products. One of the pioneers in the adoption of the sustainable development concept, Klabin was the first company in the pulp and paper sector in the South Hemisphere to receive the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) certification (FSC-C022516) in 1998. In Parana, Klabin has the largest green area in the south of Brazil, easily seen in satellite images.

Forest Stewardship

Landscape management and the multiple use of the forests are concepts orienting Klabin’s forestry activities. It is an achievement that dates back to the 1960’s, when the landscape of Monte Alegre Farm, in Telemaco Borba, was designed: forests were planted interspersed with large areas of preserved native woodlands, creating a mosaic pattern that has become a characteristic of the company. This combination allows the protection of biodiversity corridors, with rich fauna in its natural habitat.

The company’s employment of correct environmental practices in its forest stewardship as well as the appropriate management of the landscape promote excellent use of the forest production potential and the protection of natural resources.

Timber in Logs

In addition to meeting the demand for raw material at Klabin’s pulp and paper plants, the Forestry Unit is Brazil’s largest supplier of wood logs originating from planted and certified forests. The pine and eucalyptus logs come from forests that follow a rigorous management plan, with FSC® (FSC-C022516) certification, and are used by the furniture, construction and sawmill industries.
