To reach its goals, the Phytotherapy Program is supported by the following infrastructure:
Agroforestal: Focused on activities of management and sustainable use of the forests, with collection and cultivation of medicinal plants, the biodiversity present in the 103 thousand hectares of native forest, conserved by Klabin in Parana along with its 131 thousand hectares forest in the state, makes it possible to collect the majority of raw materials needed for scientific production of the phytotherapeutics, phytocosmetics and condiments, thanks to a system of rational management. Techniques of organic cultivation are also applied in small manageable areas either inside or outside the forest, where medicinal plant seedlings are obtained for repopulation of the native or spontaneous species and cultivation of adaptable exotic plants.
Pharmaceutical: This sector is responsible for the selection and quality control of the plants, processing of the pharmaceutical formulae, and production and distribution of phytotherapeutical medicines, phytocosmetics, aromas and condiments.
Natural products: For their manufacture, there are the installations of the manipulation laboratory. It is our own process and controlled professionally, which means that, even on a manual scale, the quality and production control of each product is as strict as any to be found in large pharmaceutical laboratories. Distribution of the products is made, in turn, through an institutional, internal pharmacy which functions in modern installations.
Doctor: Practices both work and health plan medicine, prescribing and collecting information about the use of natural medicines with his patients.
Klabin’s Phytotherapy operation targets five basic illnesses found in the community of Telemaco Borba, which represent 49.7% of all its health problems. Namely:
- Colds and flu;
- Cuts and skin lesions;
- Dyspepsia;
- Diarrhoea;
- Slight arterial hypertension.
The medicinal plants used in the manufacture of phytotherapy were selected because they were active in these pathologies, based on available scientific information, and the current rate and percentage of incidence, and validated by the efficacy and safety of their usage.
