Environmental Education

Klabin runs several environmental education projects so as to disseminate the ideas of ecological awareness among both teachers and students. The best example is the Caubi project which has already benefited over 188 thousand students and over 2.479 teachers from 565 schools in the regions of Telemaco Borba, in Parana, Santa Catarina and Ponte Nova, Minas Gerais, since 2000. This is one of the leading environmental education activities in Brazil. The Caubi project not only contributes to the education of critical and conscientious citizens, but also qualifies teachers to run their own environmental program in schools, covering the local fauna and flora. It also serves to stimulate holistic, ecological awareness in the region.

The company, in partnership with the non-governmental organization Apremavi (Association for the Preservation of the Environment and Life) is developing the Legal Woods Program, so as to expand the areas of native forest in Santa Catarina State and to make small property owners aware of the importance of sustainable development practices and environmental conservation.

In the production plants, Klabin gives groups of its employees the responsibility to disseminate basic notions of environmental preservation as well as information on selective waste collection. Their mission is to introduce the importance of correct environmental procedures to all the company’s employees.
