Ecological Trail

Trail of the Waters. This is the name of the Trail in the Ecological Park. Along the trail, water can be seen in its most varied forms, from springs and brooks to bigger rivers, with natural waterfalls. The Trail of the Waters is 3,000 meters long and can be completed in about one hour.

Waiting to be discovered along the Trail, is the vegetation which can take on various and complex forms. Among them, a natural forest dominated by tall trees with broad trunks and an underbrush full of ferns. Other areas are found to be more altered, with an abundance of bamboo.

Some of the trees along the trail are identified with signs, drawing attention to their size, as for example the Parana pine, the guajuvira (Patagonula americana L) and the cherry tree. Trunks of fallen trees are often encountered beside the path, with a miniature world of plants made up of fungi, lichens, moss and bryophytes living on them. The fungi have the important function of decomposing trunks of dead trees so that they return to the soil in the form of nutrients or fertilizer.

There is much to be seen and appreciated among the plants: bromelias and orchids, with their exotic colors, various types of vine with their curious shapes, and maidenhair and ferns in their natural environment.

Walking in silence and dressed discretely, one can spot animals which live in different environments in which the trail passes: collared peccaries, agoutis, coatis and urus can be seen hiding in the forest; capybaras, white-faced ducks and wood rails at the dam; a wide variety of birds can be discovered by their colors and their songs at any point on the trail: hiding in the vegetation are multi-colored insects in unbelievable shapes and visible only to the most observant. With a little bit of luck, the king-fisher can be spotted fishing, or a band of capuchin monkeys at the tops of the trees or even an otter playing as she swims in the waters of the lake.
