Klabin is both pioneer and leader in the production of packaging paper in Latin America. All of Klabin’s paper and cartonboard mills have Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) chain of custody certification.
The kraft paper made by Klabin supplies intercompany the nine corrugated box plants of the Company as well as being sold to box plants in over 60 countries.
Klabin’s cartonboard is made with a mixture of short (eucalyptus) and long (pine) fibers, which gives the packaging strength and excellent printability. The cartonboard sector is an expression of Klabin’s high technology dedicated to the development of higher value added products to meet the requirements of the most demanding customers.
Initiated in September 2008, Project MA-1100’s purpose was to raise the capacity of the mill of Monte Alegre in Telemaco Borba, Parana, from 680 thousand tons/year to 1.1 million tons/year – boosting the company’s total production of cartonboard from 340 to 740 thousand tons/year.
The company invested about R$ 2.2 billion in this expansion. The Monte Alegre Plant, which is the biggest paper mill in Brazil, became one of the ten biggest paper mills in the world and one of the six largest global manufacturers of virgin fiber cartonboard.
Klabin’s cartonboard has innovated in the market by combining long (pine) and short (eucalyptus) fibers, with advantages in performance (strength) and printing quality. The main end uses for cartonboard are packages for food (milk, dairy products, juices, sauces, wines and chilled products), beverages (soft drinks and beer), hygiene and cleaning products and pharmaceuticals.
MA-1100 placed Klabin in an excellent position in the global Pulp and Paper market as a major producer with highly competitive manufacturing and distribution costs. All this, without forgetting the company’s historical commitment to sustainable development and excellence in customer service.
