Plasma technology permits total separation of the plastic and the aluminum that
are a part of the packaging
In the first half of 2005, Klabin, together with Tetra Pak, Alcoa and TSL Ambiental, inaugurated a plant for recycling long-life cartons in Piracicaba, in the interior of Sao Paulo. The new plant is located alongside Klabin’s plant, where the production line recycles the paper ply from the long-life packages.
A world first, this plant utilizes state-of-the-art Plasma technology, which permits total separation of the plastic and the aluminum that are a part of the packaging. This process has revolutionized the current recycling method of long-life packaging, which until now, could only separate the paper, but kept the plastic and aluminum together.
The Plasma process is yet another recycling option, which allows all three components of the package to be returned as raw material to the production chain.
