Forest Stewardship Council - FSC Brazil

Certification is a voluntary process during which a forestry business is evaluated by an independent organization, the certifying body, and compliance with environmental, economic and social issues, which are part of the FSC’s Principles and Criteria, is verified. The process can be summed up in macro stages * Initial contact – the forestry operation gets in touch with the certifying body * Appraisal – Consists of a general analysis of the stewardship, documentation and field evaluation. Its purpose is to prepare the operation for certification. In this phase, public consultations are held when interested parties may make themselves known. * Adjustments – After appraisal, the forestry operation is awarded certification. In this stage, the certifying body draws up and publishes a public summary. *Annual auditing – After certification an audit of the operation is carried out at least once a year.
