On Saturday 22nd of September, Telemaco Borba will host the finals of the 16th Parana Championship of Bands and Brass Bands which will count for a place in the Brazilian Championship of Bands. More than two thousand professional and amateur musicians and nearly 30 bands from every region in the State will be making presentations to the public from 9am to 7pm on Avenida Parana. Afterwards at 8pm, the day will end at the Casa da Cultura Theater with exhibitions by symphony bands, followed by the announcement of the results and prize-giving.
“People from Telemaco Borba and Parana will be showing the community what social inclusion and promoting quality of life, with professional perspectives, mean”, states the mayor Eros Danilo Araujo. For the municipal secretary of Culture, Gilson Vieira da Siva, this will be both a great organizational challenge and a cultural example. “We will show off our hospitality at yet another event of national importance, boosting our image and making the name of Telemaco Borba and our artistic values known”. Jean Sampaio, conductor and coordinator of the Municipal Martial Band (Juvenile) from Telemaco Borba reveals that the best musical bands from Parana will be present at this elimination contest, demonstrating the highest levels of musical, intellectual and instrumental quality.
The band from Telemaco Borba is one example, three-times champion of Parana and Brazilian vice-champion, as is also the Municipal Band from Sorocaba (SP) which is national champion.The Telemaco Borba band’s efforts are focused on becoming four-time state champion and national champion, in October, in Rio de Janeiro at the fifteenth edition of the Brazilian championships.
Investment in a young group – The Municipal Martial Band from Telemaco Borba (Juvenile Category) and its 55 members, a mixed team of young boys and girls between 12 and 20 years old, will present two pieces at Saturday’s competition: The Light Eternal (James Swearingen) and Salvador Rosa (Antonio Carlos Gomes ). “We have rehearsed a lot and we are optimistic about a good result, but we know it won’t be easy”, commented members of the musical group and front line of the local band. They are going to be using new instruments for the first time, like the timpani (percussion), tubas, trumpets among others. The new instruments were acquired with the town’s own investments of approximately R$ 42 thousand. The jury is made up of delegates from the Parana Federation of Bands and Brass Bands. A general team made up of 20 people, with four jurors from the Symphony Orchestra of Parana and the Symphony Band of the Military Police.
