Klabin’s Forestry Business Unit is the biggest Brazilian supplier of logs from planted forests to the laminating and sawn timber industries. Its processes ensure the reliability and low cost of the products, always in keeping with the Company’s Policy of Sustainability. The great majority of the Klabin’s forests have FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council®) certification; the company was the first from the Pulp and Paper sector in the Americas to be granted FSC certification, in 1998, for its forests in Parana.

During and after the crisis of 2008, the certified timber market performed better than that of non-certified products and the amount of customers looking for certified timber has steadily increased year after year.

The majority of certified timber produced and sold by Klabin goes to overseas markets, above all to Europe and the United States. The product is converted into door and window frames, moldings and plywood for construction. In 2010, the company sold 3.11 thousand tons of wood. Trees harvested by Klabin can vary from 7 to 25 years in age and a single eucalyptus or pine tree can weigh as much as 3 tons.
