Klabin S.A. is the biggest producer, exporter and recycler of paper in Brazil and the market leader in packaging paper and board, corrugated boxes, industrial sacks and also produces and sells timber in logs - for use in the furniture industry and civil construction.
The company is organized into three business units – Forestry, Paper (cartonboard and kraftliner) and Conversion (corrugated boxes and industrial sacks) – and runs 17 plants in eight Brazilian States and one in Argentina. It operates with a portfolio of approximately 2.1 thousand active customers, which include industries of food, beverages, electrical and electronic appliances, hygiene and cleaning products, cement, seeds and sheet plants among others. With the head office in São Paulo (SP) it has sales offices in nine states of the country, a subsidiary in the United States and an agent in Europe.
In 2010, Klabin cultivated 213 thousand hectares with pine and eucalyptus to supply the majority of wood needed to manufacture its products. The rest of its raw material was produced in partnership with 18 thousand farmers who are participants in the Forestry Incentives Program. The company maintains 192 thousand hectares of preserved native woodlands, which enable environmental education programs to be run for the employees and communities in these areas.
This operational model meant that Klabin became the first company from the pulp and paper sector in the Americas to have its forests certified by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®), in 1998. Today the great majority of Klabin’s forests have the right to the FSC trademark and all the kraftliner, cartonboard and industrial sack plants also have chain of custody certification.
The company ended the year of 2010 with 14,603 direct and outsourced employees. It sold 1,716 thousand tons of paper and packaging and 3,113 thousand tons of wood, generating a net revenue of R$ 3.7 billion, 24% above that of 2009.
